In Turkey
Visit any Turkish notary with your passport or ID and ask for a general litigation power of attorney (genel dava vekaletnamesi) in favour of Attorney Nurettin Canata, using the details above. If you do not speak Turkish, the notary will require a sworn interpreter.
At a Turkish consulate abroad
Turkish consulates can issue powers of attorney that are valid in Turkey without further legalisation. Book an appointment through the consulate’s online system and bring your passport (and Turkish ID if you are a dual national).
Before a foreign notary
A power of attorney signed before a foreign notary must carry an apostille under the Hague Convention (or consular legalisation for non-member states) and be translated into Turkish by a sworn translator in Turkey.
Special authorities
- Divorce: must expressly mention divorce and include your photograph.
- Real estate: sale or purchase requires a specific power identifying the property, with photograph.
- Settlement and waiver: authority to settle, waive or accept claims must be expressly included.
FAQ
Which is easier: consulate or foreign notary?
A power of attorney issued at a Turkish consulate is ready for use in Turkey without apostille or translation. A foreign notary document requires an apostille (or consular legalisation) and a sworn Turkish translation.
Can I revoke the power of attorney later?
Yes. You can revoke it at any time through a notary. Revocation takes effect once notified to the lawyer.
Do I need a separate power of attorney to sell property?
Yes. Real estate sales and purchases at the land registry require a specific power of attorney identifying the property and containing a photograph.
